Fire Near Resort Area Prompts Evacuations

RUNNING SPRINGS, Calif. — A wildfire roared across 700 acres Saturday, burning several structures, prompting evacuations and shutting down one of the main routes into the Lake Arrowhead-Big Bear Lake resort areas.
It wasn’t clear how many buildings burned or whether they were homes, said Ruth Wenstrom, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service in San Bernardino.
“Homes and outbuildings are pretty much what would be there,” she said. Residents in Fredalba and Smiley Park, south of Running Springs, were evacuated, but Wenstrom couldn’t say how many people were affected.
