City Planners Reject Bar With Access to Internet

Citing location and parking concerns, the Planning Commission this week rejected a proposed bar that would have featured access to the Internet for patrons.
The decision came after a public hearing at which some residents opposed the business, saying they were worried drunk patrons would use the computers to order up pornography.
“Alcohol and pornography is not new,” said Joan Owen, a neighbor of the proposed bar at Valley Gardens Center on Brookhurst Street. “I think that’s a very volatile mix.”
Chuck Haddad and Andrew Khalife contended their business--Cyberlounge--would have been “classy and upscale,” with a pianist providing background music and a menu including cigars, gourmet coffees and pastries.
They said they are considering appealing the commission’s decision to the City Council and pursuing a lawsuit.
