One of the founding administrators of Cal State Fullerton has died after a long illness, school officials announced Tuesday.
Gerhard E. Ehmann, 83, died July 31, officials said.
In 1959, Ehmann planned education courses for the school, which at that time existed only in concept. The first group of 452 students attended classes at a leased high school until the university completed construction the following year.
He retired in 1980 from the university, where he had been a professor of education for seven years. Ehmann also had served as dean of instruction, as well as dean of the summer session and the university extension.
Ehmann is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of Fullerton; son Gordon of Groveland; and brother Norman of Sunnyvale.
