Police to Ticket Kids --for Model Behavior
- Share via
The city’s police officers will be ticketing children for staying out of trouble, part of Operation Chill, which kicks off Wednesday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at 7-Eleven, 818 W. Flower St.
The “tickets” are coupons for a free 12-ounce Slurpee at any participating 7-Eleven store. About 5,000 coupons will be handed out.
The program allows officers to ticket children they observe doing something helpful or deterring crime.
“The coupons are a way for the officers to interact in a positive manner with the youth in our community,” Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters said.
The kickoff event will include free bicycle safety inspections and a visit by members of the Police Department’s canine, motorcycle and bicycle units. A Santa Ana Fire Department pumper truck will be on display, and a donated bicycle and bicycle helmets will be given away.
