Flynn to Give Talk on District’s Schools
Simi Valley schools chief Dan Flynn will discuss his vision for Ventura County’s largest school district at a Friday luncheon with the Simi Valley chapter of the National Federation of Republican Women.
Reservations must be made by today for the monthly meeting by calling Ede Stratton at 527-0323. Lunch is $12 and the event will be held at the Wood Ranch Country Club.
Because his hiring two months ago sparked community debate, the women’s group asked Flynn to clear up any misunderstandings and introduce himself, said publicity spokeswoman Clell Goldstein.
Flynn was the only candidate considered for the job and was hired despite a contentious 3-2 split on the school board. For several weeks before his hiring, community members at board meetings urged trustees to conduct a national search for a superintendent.
The local chapter of the Republican group has 75 members. It has invited other speakers in the past, including leaders from the city’s Cultural Arts Center and state lawmakers.
