Thank you for the excellent story (“Rustic Rooms With a View,” Aug. 24) about the reopening of the Vetter Mountain Lookout in the Angeles National Forest. The views are spectacular and as one of the volunteers said, “Sometimes there are moments of pure silence.”
Those moments will become rarer because Angeles National Forest has decided to build an off-road vehicle route through Upper Big Tujunga Canyon right below the refurbished fire tower.
It’s a shame that the Angeles National Forest is proceeding with an insensitively located off-road vehicle route that will diminish the experience of the thousands of people who visit Vetter Mountain Lookout each year.
