NORTH HOLLYWOOD — A 7-year-old girl who was critically injured when she fell from a third-floor apartment balcony showed signs of improvement Wednesday, according to a hospital spokesman.
The girl was playing on the balcony before she fell and landed on a first-floor balcony, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis said.
The accident occurred at about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 6800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. A Fire Department helicopter airlifted the girl to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles.
The child suffered head trauma, multiple face fractures and was breathing with the assistance of a respirator, according to Steve Rutledge, a hospital spokesman.
Doctors were optimistic about the girl’s condition, Rutledge said, and expected her to be able breathe on her own again by today.
