Until the end of the year, this page will profile what options, from tours to celebrations, still remain for travelers looking to ring in Year 2000 elsewhere. “Deal of the Week” will return to this space next week.
For a Southern-style New Year, you might try the Planters Inn in Charleston, S.C. The 62-room hotel, dating to 1844, is rated four diamonds by AAA. The “Relais & Cha^teaux Dinner Party,” from $900 per person, double occupancy, includes three nights’ lodging; daily breakfast; a seven-course New Year’s Eve dinner with wine and champagne; dancing to the Bobbie Storm Quartet; a bottle of champagne; and taxes and gratuities. Another package, the “Peninsula Grill Extravaganza,” from $800 per person, double, has similar features but omits the dancing and live music. Reservations: telephone (843) 722-2345.
