2 Earthquakes Jostle Areas of the Southland

BAKERSFIELD — A pair of earthquakes rumbled in San Bernardino and Kern counties Saturday, but there were no reports of injury or damage.
The larger quake struck at 5:04 p.m. and registered magnitude-4.4, said Mandy Johnson, seismologist at Caltech.
The epicenter was 31 miles south of Bakersfield in a rural area just north of the Los Angeles County line. It was a new quake and not an aftershock.
No one was hurt, and no property was damaged, a Kern County sheriff’s dispatcher said. There were no calls from people reporting shaking, she said.
The first quake struck at 1:08 a.m. about a mile northeast of Loma Linda and registered magnitude-3.4, Caltech reported.
Loma Linda is about 65 miles east of Los Angeles.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s dispatchers reported no calls of injury or damage.
