BELL GARDENS — A search was underway Wednesday for a 25-year-old man suspected of stabbing his 12-year-old niece to death in Bell Gardens, authorities said.
Sheriff’s investigators said the suspect, Jose Morales, stabbed the girl multiple times with a small kitchen knife Tuesday about 8:30 a.m. in a house in the 6100 block of Gallant Street.
Authorities said Morales stopped by the house and began arguing with the girl, whose identity was not released. He may have fled to Oxnard or San Bernardino, where he has family and friends, said Deputy Cruz Solis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Morales, who has an extensive criminal history, is also known as Jose Antonio Morales and Antonio Morales.
Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s investigators at (323) 890-5500.
