Mitterrand Still Jailed

PARIS — Jean-Christophe Mitterrand, son of the late French president, defiantly refused to post bail Wednesday and instead remained in prison on charges of illegal arms trafficking.
A French court ruled Tuesday that Mitterrand could leave Paris’ Sante prison, where he has been since Dec. 21, on payment of an unusually high bail of about $718,000.
Lawyers for the 54-year-old son of Francois Mitterrand said he did not have the money, and his brother Gilbert said that, in protest, he was refusing help from friends.
