12 Farm Workers Die When Train Hits Van

A commuter train hit a van carrying Ecuadorean farm workers and dragged it 200 yards, killing at least 12 of the immigrants, authorities said. Two other Ecuadoreans were in critical condition after the early morning accident at a rail crossing outside the town of Lorca, in Spain’s Murcia province in the southeast. The driver of the van, which was carrying about 30 people, was also in critical condition. Lorca’s mayor, Miguel Navarro, said he had complained to the state railway company that the crossing was dangerous and needed barriers.
