Upward Mobility

* In “The Stork Now Delivers a Stark Reality” (Commentary, Jan. 2), James Pinkerton has outdone himself. He writes, “Only a racist would worry about the skin color of upcoming Americans” and then proceeds to write a column where he worries about just that. There is a flaw in his reasoning, however. If high-income and high-education people are destined to “de-evolve” by not reproducing enough, and if this bodes ill for America, how did all of them come to be? Shouldn’t the dire consequences he forecasts be an ongoing problem?
The ability to earn high income, to excel in school and succeed in society is not limited to children of the upper classes, as has been evidenced by generations of upwardly mobile minorities and immigrants.
