A man and five teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of using a pellet gun and a hammer to assault two people and vandalize a vehicle, Oxnard police said Wednesday.
Armando Alonzo, 18, and the five juveniles were taken into custody about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday after police stopped their van near Lemonwood Park on San Mateo Place, said Officer Robin Brunson.
While traveling around the park, the group allegedly attacked a boy with a hammer handle and shot a man with the pellet gun. Pellets also shattered the windows of a car parked in the area, police said.
The victims’ injuries were not serious, police said. Alonzo remained jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail Wednesday night. He was being held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and participating in a criminal street gang.
The teens were booked into Ventura County Juvenile Hall on similar charges. Their status was unknown.
