President Chosen After Unheard-Of Runoff Poll

Abel Pacheco was elected president in an election that made history as Costa Rica’s first runoff.
With more than 90% of the vote counted, Pacheco had 58% compared with Rolando Araya’s 42%.
In February, neither garnered the 40% needed to win. The spoiler, Otton Solis, a dissident from Araya’s party, grabbed 27% of the vote then.
