Police Chief David Bejarano said Monday that he is being considered for the post of U.S. marshal in San Diego.
Bejarano, 45, a 23-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department and chief since April 1999, said it is a great honor to be considered for the federal job. “If I am not selected, I will be happy to continue to devote my full duties” as San Diego police chief, he said.
Earlier this year, Bejarano took himself out of contention for the job of police chief in Los Angeles. Under the San Diego City Charter, the police chief is selected by the city manager, subject to confirmation by the City Council.
