Two Out of Three Not Bad

With any luck at all, local horseplayers could have had three pick-six carry-overs to take aim at today.
Despite upsets by Eyad ($18.80), Last Minute Detail ($25.20) and Star Parade ($26.40) in the Bayakoa, there was one winning ticket at Hollywood Park, worth $167,818, so bettors will have to be content with carry-overs at Aqueduct and Golden Gate Fields.
The Aqueduct carry-over of more than $20,000 has been on hold since Thursday as a huge snowstorm forced the cancellation of racing at the New York last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Golden Gate’s pick six hasn’t been hit for three days, so it has grown to in excess of $54,000 as the new racing week begins.
Perhaps the most logical single in the sequence at Golden Gate is Sky’s Comet.
A 4-year-old Skywalker filly trained by John Martin for owner Ed Wilkerson, she has won two of her last three on the turf and returns at the same $6,250 level in today’s fifth at 1 1/16 miles. Chad Schvaneveldt keeps the mount for Martin, who is 13 for 39 at Golden Gate.
Race of the day: Speaking of Martin, his trainee Oro Desert will try for his fourth consecutive win in today’s fifth at Hollywood Park. The 3-year-old Desert Classic gelding, who hasn’t lost since being claimed for $16,000 on Sept. 26, will be ridden by Julie Krone in the $40,000 optional claimer for California-breds at 1 1/16 miles on the grass.
One for the road: Pop Rocks could get the right trip right behind a couple of speedballs (Cahill Kid and Don Six) in today’s seventh at Aqueduct, a $47,000 allowance at seven furlongs. The 6-year-old gelding won big in his return to New York last month.
Exotically speaking: A pick three using Brave Vixen in the third, Bettor Royalty, Olympic Success and Window B in the fourth and Oro Desert, Mr. Steve, Roberto’s Show and Decimate in the fifth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/62. Money: Previous day/meet total: $13.40/$313.40. Total money bet: $344.
