Perjury Conviction of Ex-Candidate Is Upheld

The perjury conviction of former South Gate City Council candidate Richard Mayer was upheld by a state appellate court in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Mayer was sentenced to 180 days of house arrest last year on seven felony counts, including perjury and filing false nomination papers. He admitted at trial that he lied about living in South Gate to qualify for the ballot in three council election since 1998.
