Man, 62, May Be State’s 7th West Nile Victim

The death of a 62-year-old Claremont man may be the fourth in Los Angeles County caused by the West Nile virus, officials said Sunday.
Walter Sheasby died at a Fontana hospital of encephalitis, or swelling of the brain, which can result from West Nile infection, according to San Bernardino County Deputy Coroner Dave Carter. Los Angeles County health officials will announce results of a blood test today to determine if West Nile was the cause. If confirmed, the death would be the seventh in California caused by the mosquito-borne virus.
On Thursday, officials said the Aug. 12 death of Raul Cuevas, 60, of Pico Rivera was caused by West Nile.
