Councilman to Appeal Ruling Favoring Correa

Santa Ana Councilman Brett Franklin will appeal a lower court verdict in his case against Assemblyman Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) upholding Correa’s transfer of $340,000 from two state Assembly accounts into his race for county supervisor.
Franklin, also running for the seat now held by Supervisor Chuck Smith, accused Correa of violating a county ordinance forbidding intra-candidate transfers. But a judge last week ruled that provision unconstitutional and granted a motion that could lead to an order for Franklin to reimburse Correa’s legal costs.
