Alarcon Spearheads Suit Over DWP Rate Hike

State Sen. Richard Alarcon (D-Sun Valley) said Wednesday he was spearheading a class-action lawsuit that would be filed today to overturn the Department of Water and Power’s 11% water rate increase.
“The mayor and City Council are playing pickpocket politics with the people of Los Angeles,” said Alarcon, a candidate for mayor. “Their attempt to mask what amounts to an improper tax is an insult to the intelligence of the voters in our city.”
Alarcon said it was illegal to raise water rates by the amount the DWP transferred to the city’s general fund.
