Two men died in apparently unrelated shootings Sunday in Los Angeles, authorities said.
Two men “who had the appearance of day laborers” were standing near the corner of Bonnie Brae and 6th streets in Westlake about 6 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.
A white car with two men inside pulled up to the men on the corner and they all started talking, said Sgt. Michael Mattox. Suddenly someone yelled, “18th Street,” the name of a gang, and one man was shot five times in the torso, Mattox said.
Manuel de Jesus Guarchaj, 30, of Los Angeles died at a local hospital. The other man was hospitalized for gunshot wounds. The victims “did not have the appearance of gang members,” Mattox said.
Another man died in Leimert Park early Sunday in a shooting in the 4400 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, the LAPD said.
Det. Robert Pulido said a suspect or several suspects opened fire about 3:55 a.m. on three men, all of whom were shot in the upper torso. Tramon Harrison, 21, of Los Angeles died at the scene, authorities said.
Pulido said he did not know the motive behind the shooting.
