A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was charged with two felony counts of driving under the influence stemming from a Sept. 24 three-vehicle collision in Rancho Mirage that left a man injured, the Riverside County district attorney’s office said Monday.
Sgt. Richard Kamstra, 46, was not on duty at the time.
He also was charged with a special allegation of causing great bodily harm. Eugene Fasciana of Rancho Mirage was injured when his car was struck by Kamstra on Dinah Shore and Mission Hills drives, the prosecutor said.
Kamstra told authorities he had had three to four beers before the collision, according to an affidavit filed by the investigating deputy. Kamstra is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 20.
