Brown and Gatewood Are Reinstated at Texas

Texas cornerback Tarell Brown and backup linebacker Tyrell Gatewood, who were suspended for the No. 8 Longhorns’ loss to No. 1 Ohio State, have been reinstated for Saturday’s game against Rice, ESPN reported. Misdemeanor marijuana charges against Brown and Gatewood were dropped Friday, but a weapons possession charge against Brown is still in effect.

Clemson received permission from the NCAA to provide assistance to a freshman player who is taking care of his younger brother. Ray Ray McElrathbey, 19, has custody of his 11-year-old brother, Fahmarr, because of his mother’s drug problems and his father’s gambling addiction. The school asked the NCAA for a waiver of its rule prohibiting athletes from obtaining gifts, cash or other benefits.

Florida State defensive tackle Paul Griffin will miss the rest of the season because of a torn ligament in his left knee.... Arizona starting quarterback Willie Tuitama is questionable for this week’s game as he recovers from a concussion.
