Why pay extra to keep bad apples?

Re “AIG limits pay of top executives” (Nov. 26):
How can any company that is losing money even remotely consider giving bonuses to top executives?
It boggles the mind. I am sure they are saying that they are worried that these people will leave.
My first question is to where, and why would someone else hire them at those salaries after their abysmal performance? And my comment is good riddance.
Maybe now shareholders will truly understand how full of themselves these executives and the boards who tolerate them are.
