Gasoline prices expected to remain stable during Thanksgiving weekend

Motorists might not be paying as little as they would like to for a gallon of gasoline, but at least prices probably will remain stable in California and across the nation during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a government report released Monday indicated.
The Energy Department’s weekly survey of filling stations showed little change at the pumps over the last week. The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in California dropped 2.1 cents to $2.94, a decline of nearly 7% since reaching the state’s high this year of $3.153 a gallon Sept. 14.
Nationally, prices were up a penny to an average of $2.639 a gallon.
In a possible sign of an improving financial situation, or at least a more optimistic outlook among motorists, AAA last week predicted a 1.4% increase in the number of people who were expected to take to the roads during the holiday.
About 38.4 million people will drive at least 50 miles over the course of the holiday, AAA said. That’s despite the fact that gasoline prices last year averaged nearly 83 cents a gallon less in California and 74.7 cents a gallon less nationally.
