Robert De Niro, who is nominated for his seventh Oscar for the quirky romantic comedy âSilver Linings Playbook,â will talk about his craft after a screening of the David O. Russell film late Monday afternoon at the American Cinemathequeâs Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.
De Niroâs personal appearance kicks off the Cinematheque and the Actors Studio retrospective, âAn Actorâs Playbook: An In-Person Tribute to Robert De Niro.â
The actor is no stranger to the Oscar circle -- he won the Academy for supporting actor for 1974âs âThe Godfather: Part IIâ and for lead actor for 1980âs âRaging Bull.â
Screening on Tuesday are two early films he made with director Martin Scorsese -- 1976âs âTaxi Driver,â for which De Niro earned his first lead actor Oscar nomination, and the landmark 1973 gangster film âMean Streets.â
The retrospective concludes Wednesday with two more films for which De Niro earned nominations -- 1990âs âAwakeningsâ and Scorseseâs 1991 âCape Fear.â
