One person was killed when a wrong-way driver heading south on the northbound 14 Freeway crashed head-on into another vehicle in Acton early Saturday, according to the CHP.
The accident near Escondido Canyon Road forced temporary closure of the northbound lanes of the freeway, said Officer Cheyenne Quesada of the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP received a report of a pickup truck driving the wrong way on the freeway at 3:28 a.m. Five minutes later, another caller alerted officials to the crash.
County firefighters rushed to the site and removed at least one person trapped in a car.
Authorities declared one of the motorists dead at the scene. The victim’s name will not be released until next of kin is notified, Quesada said.
She could not confirm whether drugs or alcohol was involved in the accident, which prompted a SigAlert starting at 3:42 a.m.
Officials rerouted traffic off the northbound 14 onto Agua Dulce Canyon Road, according to the CHP, which is investigating.
