A 12-year-old boy who was killed this week when he was struck by a car while riding a motorized scooter that he received as a Christmas present was identified Saturday by a family member.
Roman Martinez, who was identified by his grandfather, was killed when he was hit about 11:50 a.m. Friday on East 24th Street in the unincorporated community of San Antonio Heights near Upland, according to the California Highway Patrol.
“He had a real good sense of adventure,” his godmother, Kathy Barnes, told KTLA. “He was just a really good kid. He was never sad, always happy.”
The 30-year-old female driver remained at the scene following the accident and was not arrested. The incident remains under investigation.
