Reporting from San Diego — The hunt continued Wednesday for a prisoner who escaped from the San Diego Central Jail. So, too, did the investigation into how he escaped.
Don Andrea Torrillo, 26, escaped from the downtown jail just before 6 p.m. Tuesday under circumstances that were unclear Wednesday, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Torrillo was in custody awaiting a hearing on drug charges. He had been arrested Friday when sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant on his home in Santee.
Torillo, described as 5 foot 9 inches and 150 pounds, was wearing a sleeveless shirt with a star in the middle, khaki shorts and jail slippers when he escaped, authorities said. He is known to frequent El Cajon, Santee and the Rancho San Diego areas.
Anyone with information about Torrillo’s whereabouts is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 has been offered for information leading to his capture.
