SAN DIEGO -- A woman who died after falling Sunday at Sunset Cliffs was identified Monday as a graduate student from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Anna Bachman, 25, was in San Diego for a midwinter break from her studies. She and her sister were taking pictures at Sunset Cliffs on the Pacific Ocean when Bachman slipped and fell to the large rocks about 50 feet below.
Bachman was posing for a picture when she fell.
She was declared dead by paramedics, according to the county medical examiner, who listed Bachman’s hometown as Santa Rosa in Northern California.
Bachman, a graduate of UC Berkeley, was working toward a master’s degree in urban planning and policy. She hoped to get a job with the Federal Home Loan Bank in Chicago where she had served as an intern, her father told the Chicago Tribune.
Richard Bachman told the newspaper his daughter had extra time in San Diego because her flight had been delayed.
“It’s not natural... You’re not supposed to bury your children,” he said. “This is all so surreal.”
