Cuba: Sierra Club tour to feature cultural, educational exchanges

The Los Angeles chapter of the Sierra Club is leading its first excursion to Cuba in conjunction with Explore International. The 15-day trip includes a full schedule of cultural and educational exchanges with the Cuban people. A special emphasis will be on the ecology and environment, particularly Cuba’s efforts to safeguard its diverse habitats.
Stops include Havana and the San Jose Craft Market and Art Center; Santiago de Cuba; Baracoa, Cuba’s oldest city; the World Heritage sites of Camaguey, Trinidad and Cienfuegos; Vinales and Las Terrazas Nature Reserve. Other highlights include a snorkeling expedition and visits to the Soroa Orchid Botanical Garden, with more than 25,000 species, a family-owned pottery business and the studio of naturalist painter Lester Campa.
Dates: Nov. 29-Dec. 13
Price: $4,100, double occupancy; $400 single supplement. Includes round-trip airfare from Mexico City to Havana, daily transportation, Cuban bilingual guide, visa, most entrance fees to cultural and ecological venues, all breakfasts, some meals and all hotel accommodations. Round-trip airfare from home city to Mexico not included.
