Pop music icon Britney Spears will begin a two-year residency in Las Vegas in late December at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
Tickets will be available starting Friday.
More than 1,300 fans gathered in the desert outside Las Vegas on Tuesday for Spears’ arrival by helicopter. Amid cheers and pyrotechnics, she took to a purpose-built stage to perform a song live on ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America.”
The “Britney: Piece of Me” show will premiere Dec. 27 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. More performances are scheduled for Dec. 28, 30 and 31, and in January and February.
The show’s website says the resort’s theater is being rebuilt. When completed, it will “house the world’s largest indoor immersive projection theater and will create the most cutting-edge concert experience ever.”
Tickets for the first 16 performances -- those in December, January and February -- will be available through the website starting at 10 a.m. Friday. They are priced from $59 to $179, plus taxes and fees.
The formal announcement was hardly a surprise in the entertainment industry. Media in both Los Angeles and Las Vegas have been buzzing with news of Spears’ long-term engagement for months.
